Galán injury rules him and Chingotto out of Kuwait as Coello and Tapia eye number one

An injury to Ale Galán takes the second-best men's pair out of this week's Kuwait Major, and it could hand Coello and Tapia the year-end number one ranking before November. In England, two padel schemes were refused by councillors in the same week, one of them a court that has been in use for a year.

The players

Galán and Chingotto pull out of the Kuwait Major. Ale Galán said on his Instagram story that an injury will keep him out of the event at The Arena Kuwait and that he hopes to be back on court soon. No details of the injury have been given. The pair, second in the world and seeded second, withdrew before their first match, and their place in the draw goes to a pair from qualifying. Padel Addict notes that Galán and Chingotto won the World Cup Pairs title in Kuwait a year ago, and raises his fitness as a question for Spain's team ahead of the FIP World Cup in Doha. The tour

A Kuwait title would settle the men's number one for Coello and Tapia. Padel Addict's sums put the top seeds 2,840 points per player ahead of Galán and Chingotto in the Race. With Kuwait gone, Galán and Chingotto can add at most 4,500 more points across Dubai, Mexico and the season Finals in Barcelona. Winning the Major's 2,000 points would take Coello and Tapia's lead to 4,840, out of reach. Reaching the final would leave them one step short, and an earlier exit keeps the race open. They arrive on a run of four straight titles. Source: Padel Addict (Spanish)

Bautista and Bergamini, and Eugenio and Caldera, win the FIP Gold in Melilla. Spain's Jairo Bautista and Brazil's Lucas Bergamini, seeded third, beat top seeds Juan Tello and Maxi Arce 6-1, 6-4 in the men's final. In the women's final, Raquel Eugenio and Bea Caldera beat top seeds Verónica Virseda and Martina Fassio 6-3, 6-4. It is Eugenio's seventh FIP tour title of 2026, with a Platinum in Marseille, two Golds and four Silvers. The men's winners take 150 FIP Race points each as they chase places in the season Finals. Planning

A Newbury hotel's padel court is refused permission a year after it opened. West Berkshire Council's planning committee voted seven to one, with one abstention, against retrospective permission for the court at The Retreat at Elcot Park. The court replaced an under-used tennis court in November 2025, and the operator had believed it did not need consent. Councillors cited noise for neighbours and the lack of a nearby bus stop, despite 64 of 67 comments supporting it. Organiser Ed Hopkins called the decision "incredibly shortsighted". Operator Courts Padel told The Padel Paper it will reapply with a canopy to cut noise. Source: The Padel Paper

Chelsea councillors reject temporary courts that officers had backed. KX Gym UK had applied for four covered courts, a small café and accessible toilets on a vacant site at Brompton Cross for 12 months, with local residents able to book two days a week without membership. Kensington and Chelsea's planning committee refused it, saying it lacked enough information on noise and on the benefits to the community. There were more than 80 objections, many about traffic on Draycott Avenue, against four letters of support. Source: Evening Standard via AOL

New clubs

A Normandy club grows from seven to eleven covered courts in its first year. Padel Sporting Club Évreux says it now has close to 400 members and has run around 150 sanctioned tournaments since it opened just over a year ago, including a men's P2000 in September. The 4,400 m² building also has two badminton courts, table tennis, a clubhouse with a restaurant and a pro shop. Source: Padel Magazine
